Can I put porcelain tiles in a house on blocks?
danielleyoung1 asked:
We are building a house on blocks (piers) is it safe to use porcelain tile? We have been told it is fine if we use backerboard(SPELL?).

We have it. Works fine.
you can use porcelain tile pretty much anywhere
it is okay to put a tile floor on a house with a pier foundation, you need to use 1/4″ hardibacker laid down on a base of thinset mortar. be sure and follow manufacturers instructions for fasteners and spacing, also the seams need to be covered with fiberglass mesh and a layer of thinset. make sure you fasten your plywood or OSB sheathing every 6″ on the edges, every 12″ in the middle and it’s a good idea to use subfloor glue on all joists also, this gives you a more rigid floor
